Volunteer Commitment Program
Dear Parents and Swimmers:
Welcome to the Mendocino Coast Sea Dragons Swim Team. The Sea Dragons are currently in our second year of inception, and we are very excited about the future of our team. We are so thankful that our children have the opportunity to swim in the newly-built, state-of-the-art C.V. Starr Aquatic Center. With your help, parents and swimmers together will build MCSD Swim Team into one of the premier competitive swim teams in northern California.
Our parent board and head coach would like to take this opportunity to introduce your family to the MCSD Parents and Swimmers Volunteer Commitment Program, which is a large part of the necessary obligation associated with being a member of the Mendocino Coast Sea Dragons Swim Team.
Each family and swimmer is asked to commit to the club. The commitment consists of participating in team activities, and participating in volunteer efforts including fundraisers, home meets, monitoring our swimmers at the pool ("Rules at the Pool"), becoming a certified meet official, or volunteering at the membership table or team store. These are just some of the activities that the team manages.
We remind you that MCSD is, primarily, a volunteer organization. All team functions, including a portion of our coaching staff, are performed by parent volunteers and community members. Our team parents and swimmers are required to volunteer a minimum of 5 hours per month or more depending on availability and desire.
There is also a new Zone 3 Pacific Swimming requirement that each team provide one certified deck official for each 15 swimmers they have entered in any meet. Failure to do so will result in significant fines to the club. We are asking all of you to consider becoming a certified deck official.
These include Stroke and Turn Judge, Starter, Referees, and Chief Judge, among others. While these positions may appear daunting, they require no previous experience or knowledge of competitive swimming. The Zone 3 officials provide all of the necessary training needed. And, you can take the certification tests online through the USA-Swimming website. We would greatly appreciate your consideration in fulfilling this role in our program. Please contact any Board Member if you are interested.
Below, available for your immediate review, is a list of the many ways that you and your swimmer can fulfill your volunteer hours.
We realize that everyone is very busy. We appreciate you taking the time to read this letter and continue your commitment to the rules and requirements necessary to build our team. As always, if you have any questions, please contact any of us at any time.
Best Regards,
André Yanez,
Board President
Mendocino Coast Sea Dragons Swim Team
